CGRF took a field trip to the PeeDee Research and Education Center in Florence SC.

Nov 2018 - CGRF Meeting

The fall meeting was held at the Charleston County Library in downtown Charleston, SC. Speakers included Dr. Robert Perry from the University of Kentucky and Matthew Smith, a researcher at Holland Lab at North Carolina State University.

May 2018 Meeting

Spring meeting held at the U.S. Vegetable Laboratory and Clemson Research and Education Center on Savannah Highway in Charleston, S.C. with presentations from Clemson professor and geneticist Dr. Amy Lawton-Rauh on genetic results of Moruga rice and Dr. Steve Jones of the Bread Lab on wheat breeding.

SC Chef Ambassador Forrest Parker discusses the dishes he created using heirloom ingredients for the spring 2016 meeting.

May 6, 2016 Guest Speaker Richard Scheuerman

Special guest Dr. Richard Scheuerman, author of Harvest Heritage: Agricultural Origins and Heirloom Crops of the Pacific Northwest and professor at Seattle Pacific University, tackled the topic ”Our Daily Bread: Heritage Grains for Health, Culture, & Occasional Profit.”

Spring 2015 Meeting

Dr. Anna McClung, Research Leader at the Dale Bumpers National Rice Research Center, discusses the origins of Carolina rices and proposes Carolina Gold Rice as the American foundation gene sequencing standard for future rice breeding.
